The second episode of our new streaming/interview experimental series, THANK YOU FOR GAMING, will be LIVE today at 2:00 pm eastern as we are joined in QuakeLive by Square Enix PR guy, Justin Kranzl.

For those of you unfamiliar, THANKYOUFORGAMING is a new Twitch channel that tosses video game PR and marketing (and other) folks into a game with us where they will be interviewed, questioned and otherwise affronted with our annoying gameplay styles and voices.

Today we’re very excited to be joined by Special Guest Justin Kranzl, a Senior PR guy at Square Enix, a self-proclaimed legend at Quakeworld, and an all-around good guy when it comes to PR who work in VG PR. He’s led the charge on some pretty major games there, including Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs, and FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, so show some respect! If you’re not following him on Twitter, well shame on you.

Today we will be playing Quakelive, as, since we do this in our spare time, we didn’t have time to ensure everyone had L4D2 installed — maybe L4D2 next time.

So join us on Twitch @ 2pm eastern, while we try to remember how to play this awesome game and learn a bit more about the industry and one of its key players along the way.

Maverick PR Clients CLEAN UP At E3 2012; We Take a Moment To Bathe In Their Glory

A writer from a video game web site emailed me last week after we announced the new game FORGE from indie developer Dark Vale Games and he said (paraphrasing) “Wow… you guys really know how to pick the best clients … they’re all doing such interesting things.” I couldn’t agree more. Some of that is dumb luck, of course, but a lot of it is by choice.

We’re not a big agency and we don’t handle HALO or CALL OF DUTY.  Sure part of us would like to swim around in that obscene amount of gamer cash, but we started Maverick with the intent of choosing who we work with and the way we work.  We honestly feel that our client partners are some of the most innovative, creative and downright interesting people and products in the industry.  And it seems that everyone who went to E3 2012 agrees with us. Our clients ARE the best!

Another Penny Arcade Expo is in the books, and this one in the backyard of MavPR (East) HQ — right here in sunny Massachusetts.  Home of the country’s mightiest pro sports teams as well as more Dunkin Donuts than people.

PAX East 2012 was the biggest PAXe yet, and there were more fans, more games, more cosplay and more work than you can shake a stick at.

The Maverick crew worked with Square Enix for PAX East once again this year, booking up quite literally hundreds of media appointments in a private VIP-showing of Sleeping Dogs, Quantum Conundrum, Theatrhythym Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 3d Dream Drop Distance and Heroes of Ruin. And, just because SE is cool like this, we also got to throw out a special surprise VIP showing of Hitman: Absolution, one of the most anticipated games of the year!

Square Enix had one of the best lineups at the show, and this is a trend that continues into the next year as well.

We had a great time visiting with a ton of media that we rarely get face time with — from old friends to new friends alike.  If you came and wrote, share your links with us either via email or on our [Facebook page].

If you didn’t get a chance to join us for the demos, or you’re just a fan of the games who stumbled across this page, make sure to search around the web for each of the games.  There are hundreds of articles coming out right now and in the next couple of days that can tell you exactly what these titles are like to play!

Square Enix has announced that renowned actor John de Lancie will lend his voice to the amazing upcoming game Quantum Conundrum.  Check out the video above for the info straight from the horse’s mouth!

ScarygirlScarygirl for XBL, PSN, PC (, Square Enix

When something straight-up awesome-looking comes floating across a game PR person’s desk, that’s when our jobs become even more fun than they already are.  And for anyone who has seen even a teensy bit of Nathan Jurevicius’ award-winning graphic novel Scarygirl, they already know that awesome-looking doesn’t begin to describe the eye-patched, tentacled, stitch-mouthed cute girl with a  hook…

Kim Swift and the Airtight Team Prepare for Their Panel at PAX Prime 2011

SEATTLE — We’re excited to announce, for those who do not already know, that Maverick PR is working on the next great game from designer Kim Swift, co-creator of Portal, entitled Quantum Conundrum.

That’s right!  And honestly, we can’t be any more excited that Square Enix turned to us when they needed a monster PR announcement for this important upcoming downloadable title.

Not only is the game flat-out amazing (DLC is really coming a long, long way), but you see, Kim was also an integral team leader for a pair of our own in-house favorite titles — Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh the many hours we’ve logged blasting Zombies and yelling at one another for release from a pesky Smoker… but that’s another story all together, people. Read more

SEATTLE — We’ve had an amazing time working on one of the best games of 2011, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, for the past year or so.  It was a long (and worthwhile) road for everyone from the development team to the marketing crew and including the diehard series fans who have waited several long years for a sequel to call their own.
