That’s some GOOD-lookin’ PR!

Reaching your audience as an independent developer is difficult. Let’s face it, if you’re a small team working on your baby, you don’t have time, the expertise, or the patience to do what’s necessary to reach out to hundreds of media, be they bloggers, streamers, writers or something in between.

The cruel twist is that you could make an amazing game and it won’t ever take off because nobody knows about it. So how do you save yourself from this common game industry trap?

That was the crux of MavPR Partner Matt Frary’s presentation to indie developers at IndieCade East — Video Game Marketing and PR for Indie Devs. And no, the focus was not on “HIRE AN AGENCY” (although that is also a great idea!), but instead on what indie devs can do themselves, how they can think about PR more effectively, and tips for getting their foot in the door with an increasingly difficult enthusiast media group.

IndieCade East Is This Week — We’ll Be There!

 

“Sundance of the Games Industry” Comes to New York With Indie Titles, Keynotes, Workshops and an Amazing Presentation on PR! <wink wink>

We’ve been extremely fortunate over the last year to have the opportunity to lend a hand to IndieCade, an outstanding organization that stands for the promotion and fostering of independent developers and games the world over. Their work has brought forward many great games — like Braid — and helped countless independent and aspiring developers make key connections with established industry players (and each other). In addition, the conference sessions allow developers to learn from one another, to refine their artistry and create even more compelling games.

This year’s IndieCade East is no different. With amazing KEYNOTES, a diverse lineup of SESSIONS, and an amazing selection of curated GAMES, all on display at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. Whether you’re an aspiring developer, a gamer, or someone who is into the future of the art of the moving image and interactive entertainment, IndieCade is the place to be this week.

This year’s theme carries overtones of love, loss and consent and showcases the artistry of games and the expression of the creators.

Not to mention, Maverick PR Partner Matt Frary will be hosting a session for independent developers on Public Relations @ 1:30 on Sunday. So come and learn a few tips n’ tricks to get some buzz for your project!

If you live in NYC, you could do a lot worse on Valentine’s Day weekend than seeing independent artists and their amazing creations. So come on down to the Museum of the Moving Image Fri-Sun.

Or, sit in on a wildly informative session about Public Relations. Who says Valentine’s romance is dead?

Frontier Developments Launches Elite: Dangerous and announces £10,000 ‘Race to Elite’ Contest

Cambridge, UK — December 16, 2014 — Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV) today launched Elite: Dangerous, the fourth game in the groundbreaking, genre-defining Elite series.

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth in the Elite series of games, following on from the seminal 1984 Elite, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell, 1993’s Frontier: Elite 2, and 1995’s Frontier: First Encounters.

Elite: Dangerous was crowdfunded via Kickstarter and Frontier Developments’ own website, beginning in November 2012. Throughout 2014, backers have had access to the game’s Alpha, Beta and Gamma stages.

The story begins today with the Empire in disarray. The Emperor is sick and a bitter fight for succession has already begun. The Federation has a weak President, and some frontier States are looking to leave it.

Players are free to throw themselves into the story wholeheartedly, participate a little, or not at all. How players choose to respond will directly affect the outcome of the current events, and the unfolding story beyond.
